How every round works

The short version: confirm the score before leaving each green, let Squabbit apply the listed pops, and keep the group moving. These instructions are tailored to our two-person matches.

Net Shamble

Barefoot Dye · Thursday · Round 1

Two-person teams

How to play each hole

  1. Both partners hit a tee shot.
  2. Select the better drive. The chosen ball must be identifiable before either ball is lifted.
  3. Both players place a ball within one club length of the chosen spot, no nearer the hole and in the same general area.
  4. From there, each player plays his own ball through the hole.
  5. Apply each player’s pop, then use the lower net score as the team score.

What matters

  • You share only the drive. After the second shot begins, the balls are independent.
  • If one partner is safely in position, the other can play more aggressively.
  • A player may pick up once his score cannot help the side, provided no separate competition requires a completed score.
  • Compare the two teams’ net scores hole by hole; lower net wins the hole.
Same lie: a selected drive in the rough stays in the rough. Do not improve into the fairway, a bunker, a penalty area, or onto the green.

Net Best Ball

Thistle Cameron / Stewart · Friday morning · Round 2

Two-person teams

How to play each hole

  1. Every player plays his own ball from tee to hole.
  2. Record both players’ gross scores.
  3. Squabbit applies individual pops on the appropriate stroke-index holes.
  4. The lower net score between the two partners becomes the team’s score.
  5. Compare team net scores hole by hole; lower net wins and equal scores halve the hole.

What matters

  • Do not confuse Best Ball with a Scramble—there is no shared shot.
  • When your partner is safely in the hole, avoid slowing play on a score that cannot count.
  • Confirm both gross scores before moving to the next tee.
  • Gavin Linkens remains in the 8:57 group; his Round 2 score also counts as Adam Kelley’s blind partner in the 8:39 match.
Blind rule: Gavin does not play an extra ball. Squabbit uses the same hole scores for his original team and for Adam’s team.

Net Ambrose

Thistle MacKay / Cameron · Friday afternoon · Round 3

Optional replay

How to play each hole

  1. Both partners hit a tee shot and choose the preferred ball.
  2. Both players hit the next shot from that selected location.
  3. Continue selecting one shot and both playing from that spot until the ball is holed.
  4. Count one shared gross team score.
  5. Apply the listed team pop when it falls on that hole, then compare net team scores.

Ball placement

  • Through the green: place within one club length, no nearer the hole, in the same general area.
  • In a bunker: recreate the lie and both play from the bunker.
  • On the putting green: place within one putter-head length, no nearer the hole.
  • No minimum number of tee shots is required unless the captains announce one before play.
Ambrose = handicapped Scramble. The shot sequence is the same as a Scramble; the Ambrose label tells Squabbit to calculate a team handicap.

Singles Match Play

Tidewater · Saturday · Round 4

Ten 1-v-1 matches

How to play each hole

  1. Each player plays his own ball.
  2. Apply the listed pops on the appropriate stroke-index holes.
  3. Compare the two net scores: lower net wins the hole; equal net scores halve it.
  4. Track the match as holes up, holes down, or all square—not by total strokes.
  5. The match ends when one player is more holes up than there are holes remaining.

Match-play reminders

  • Only your opponent can concede your next stroke or the hole. A concession cannot be declined or withdrawn.
  • If a pop applies, calculate net before deciding whether to concede.
  • Ready golf is encouraged when both players agree and safety is not affected.
  • All five Tidewater groups start on No. 10, including the 9:24 AM group.
Make the matchup obvious: each Tidewater tee group contains two separate singles matches. Check the schedule page before teeing off.

Net Scramble

Barefoot Love · Sunday · Round 5

Two-person teams

How to play each hole

  1. Both partners hit every shot.
  2. After each pair of shots, choose the preferred result.
  3. Both players play again from that selected location.
  4. Repeat until one ball is holed; that is the team’s gross score.
  5. Apply the listed team pop when it falls on that hole, then compare net team scores.

What matters

  • The safer player should hit first; the second player can attack after a usable shot is in play.
  • On putts, the first ball should finish the hole when practical so the team always has a score.
  • Use the same ball-placement rules as the Ambrose round.
  • No minimum number of tee shots is required unless announced before the round.
Gameplay note: our Net Scramble and Net Ambrose use the same on-course shot procedure. Squabbit handles the team handicap and the published schedule shows who receives each team’s pops.

How pops work

A “pop” is one handicap stroke. The number beside a player or team on the schedule is the total number of strokes received for that match. One pop is applied on each hole beginning with stroke index 1 and continuing through the listed number. For example, 6 pops means one stroke on handicap holes 1–6. Always enter the gross score in Squabbit; the app calculates net.

For Shamble and Best Ball, pops belong to individual players. For Ambrose and Scramble, pops belong to the two-player team. In Singles, only the player shown with pops receives them.

2. Say it out loud
